    Question

My mother used this stove from the 40's until 1996. Then she left it to me, because I thought it was so neat.

I may need to sell it and I don't even know what to advertise. Would you help out there?

    Thanks
Hate to sell it in New Mexico

I cannot imagine selling a stove under these circumstances. You stove is a Model B and looks to be in very good condition. These stoves are very valuable - to a cook. They have great features like the griddle, broiler & deep well, which is a slow cooker. You probably saw your mother use many of these features - that makes it even more valuable in my book. The monetary value of your stove will vary depending on how fast you need to sell the stove and how many Chambers there are in your area. I recently purchased a stove like yours at an estate sale, with the deepwell pot, for $300 in Dallas.

This forum is a valuable source of information on how to use and repair your stove. We would love to have you join our ranks. If you decide to keep your stove, you can purchase a owners manual & cook books from either Todd White or Sam the Uncertain Stoveman on this forum. They will teach you how to do routine maintenance & cleaning on your stove. Your stove could be an heirloom for your grandchildren. Why not keep it in the family?

It's a Model B, and you're right about the timeframe as B's were primarily from the 1940's. It's in very fine shape - some of us (ahem) started with alot worse looking stoves in our restoration projects.

I'm with MaryOpal - that is a lovely family heirloom. I can't imagine selling it. I don't think New Mexico was a hotspot for Chambers stoves, so you may or may not get what it's worth.

If you must sell it, then you might do better by selling the Thermowell pot on e-Bay separate from the stove. The sad thing is that you might get as much for the pot as that fabulous stove.

    Hey Happystep:

Welcome to the forum. We're a bunch of sentimental old fools, so you can be sure you will get lots of encouragement to keep that stove based soley on your family connection to it. But that doesn't mean we are not practical.

I'm gonna paraphrase some of my on-line colleagues here: If you're considering selling it because one, two, or three things on it are falling apart or not working, don't panic. These things were made to fix. It might seem intimidating at first, even dangerous. But believe us, with a little bit of knowledge (us), elbow grease (you), and an experienced appliance repair guy, you can get that thing up and running, in no time, it'll be safe, and you will have lots of fun with it.

Do you know that it is environmentally a great thing to keep and use? Consumes very little gas because the oven and thermowell are super insulated: after a few minutes of gas, you can turn it off and "Cook With The Gas Turned Off". Also, a new stove will mean more consumption of resources, and new stoves last only 15 years or so.

If you know all this and you just gotta sell it cause you need the dough, well hush my mouth, we'll do our best to help you find a deserving home for it. Maybe you can even get visitation rights.

    Sincerely,

    Joe P

    Oh, right!

Ahem: You have been assimilated, you cannot be un-assimilated, resistance is futile, etc., etc., etc.

So HappyStep, can you tell us nosey folks the reason for you considering to sell the stove?

You know, I just noticed that your stove has a Robert Shaw thermostat dial, which is usually on the later BZ models. However, your stovetop does not have the BZ pilot vent, which would be located between the four burner/thermowell spaces. Does your thermowell have a rectangular vent opening on the back wall? The BZ and C models do not have the vent.

    Regards,

    Joe P

Thank you for all your comments. After much thought I have decided that I must sell my stove.

I am in the Rio Rancho/Albuquerque, New Mexico area and I hope that you might have some suggestions for me to find the right home for the stove.

    Thanks,

    Julie

    Julie,

Before you sell it - would you mind telling us what you're going to buy (or use) that can match or surpass your CHAMBERS?

    I'd sure like to know...
